Bye Bye Barneys and Good Riddance

“The End Of An Era”, cue the violins .. I’m sorry but I’m not in the least bit sad .

On Thursday, a New York judge declared Authentic Brands Group the winner in the $271.4 million sale of the luxury specialty store. ABG, a licensing company, plans to close the existing stores, liquidate the merchandise and license the name to Saks Fifth Avenue, which will then sell Barneys-branded merchandise. Barneys New York will be boiled down to its essence: an idea.

I wonder how much they spent on discrimination lawsuits over the years. Let’s go back a little and count .

In 1996, Johnnie Roberts, a journalist for Newsweek, published an account of an incident taking place in the spring of 1990 in which he was mistakenly accused of shoplifting because of being an African American.

In 2013, Trayon Christian, a 19-year-old African American, purchased a $350 Ferragamo belt and was arrested shortly after leaving the store. The police had received a call from the store claiming that the debit card used was fraudulent even though the customer provided proper identification at the time of the purchase. The officers questioned Trayon on how he was able to afford the purchased belt and accused him of using a fraudulent card. He was handcuffed, detained in a holding cell for two hours and interrogated further. He was later released after the police contacted Chase Bank to verify ownership of the card.

Another African American shopper, Kayla Phillips, has also come forward with a similar claim after she purchased a $2,500 Célinehandbag with her debit card. Both shoppers believe they were targeted because of their race after they purchased costly items and have stated they intend on filing discrimination lawsuits against the store.

Conrad Barton paid $1,045.20 for the jeans and $321.19 for the scarf in September, which he tried to return about three weeks later. He showed a clerk his debit card and two receipts. The clerk asked him to wait, and then a man claiming to be a manager appeared.

In 2013, Jay Z put out a collection at Barney’s and fans protested. In response ,

Why am I being demonized, denounced and thrown on the cover of a newspaper for not speaking immediately?" he wrote. "The negligent, erroneous reports and attacks on my character, intentions, and the spirit of this collaboration have forced me into a statement I didn't want to make without the full facts."
Jay-Z added that he and his team are working "to get to the bottom of these incidents and at the same time find a solution that doesn't harm all those that stand to benefit from this collaboration."
"I am against discrimination of any kind, but if I make snap judgments, no matter who it's towards, aren't I committing the same sin as someone who profiles?" he said. "I am no stranger to being profiled and I truly empathize with anyone that has been put in that position. Hopefully this brings forth a dialogue to effect real change."
This is one of the moments , us as Hov fans try to pretend never happened . But anyway, they have literally been racist forever . So no I’m not sad to see them go. However , for those who are you can go wipe your tears in some clearance luxury items because EVERYTHING MUST GO🤣
