She’s Not One of Them..

It has come to my attention that some people were not aware of Jazmine Sullivan's talent. Maybe she is just getting her roses because she has been gone for a while, because music fans know about this talent. She even cowrote most of Mary J. Blige's last album , I could literally hear her singing "Thick of It". Her peers are always giving her the flowers she deserves, but some casual fans may not know of her resume . So I will fill you in on some of her accomplishments.

Her music writing credits go all the way back to 2003, with writing for Kindred the Family Soul with “Surrender To Love”.  She’s worked with several artists in the R&B genre ,with the likes of Monica, Tamia, Fantasia and Faith Evans. The fact that she wrote “Everything To Me”, tells me everything anyone needs to know . She even recorded , “Say I” for Christina Milian .

Not only is she a writer of others music , her music is amazing . She bursted onto the R&B scene in 2008 with a single co-written by Missy Elliot called “I Need You”,from her debut album “Fearless”.

She followed the album with her sophomore effort“Love Me Back”, in 2010.

She took a break in 2011 , ‘because the music industry wasn’t fun anymore’.

However, in a Breakfast Club interview in 2015 , she revealed that she was in an abusive relationship.

In 2015, her masterpiece called , “Reality Show” reminded us how amazing of talent she was.

I often think of Jazmine as a modern day Phyllis Hyman in all of her grace and poise, she even looks like her a little bit. However , the way she pulls her emotion into her music takes me back to my favorite Blues singer Billie Holiday. Her scatting ability always gives me Ella Fitzgerald or Sarah Vaughn. She’s definitely been here before ..

This year Jazmine has returned after a brief hiatus , she has a new look and a new album. Outside of co-writing , she hasn’t released a solo project. And even though she took a break , this time around she has been very active on social media and got to watch her growth. She describes her breaks as , ‘experiencing life for writing inspiration’.The album will be released at the top of the year called “Heaux Tales”, with her leading singles “Lost Ones” and “Pick Up Your Feelings”.

She hasn’t stopped there, she has been posting small story clips leading up to “Hueax Tales” . On top of an amazing performance for the Soul Train Award ,and an in-depth interview with The Breakfast Club .

Her new album will be released on January 8, 2021, so you have some time to catch up . In the meantime, don’t play with Miss Sullivan because she is not one of them..
