To a casual fan this beef came out of nowhere, however if
you are a student of hip hop like myself. You will know this beef started way
before Drake even joined Young Money, he just became a casualty of war because
his boss didn’t want any smoke.
This diss was sent to anyone at Young Money who had anything to say. The beef started from a cover of Vibe .
Anyway, Pusha has feuded with Lil Wayne since
2002, but the first public diss came on the track “Mr. Me Too.” At
the time, Pusha was still performing with Clipse, a group composed of
himself and his brother No Malice.
The duo were wearing alots BAPE
clothing at the time and when Wayne dressed in BAPE attire on the front cover
of Vibe magazine they claimed the rapper
copied their style. On “Mr. Me Too,” featuring Pharell, they
rapped: ”Wanna know the time? Better clock us / N****s bite the style from
the shoes to the watches.Wayne responded during an interview
with Complex later that year,
telling the publication: “You talking to the best. Talk to me like you’re
talking to the best. I don’t see no fuckin’ Clipse. Come on man.”
So when Drake joined Young Money , he
became a casualty of war. Pusha released a song entitled, "Don't Fuck With
Me" , a song that sampled Drakes "Dreams Money Can Buy". Where
he raps "Rappers on their sophomores / Actin’ like they boss lords /
Fame such a funny thing for sure / When n****s start believing all them
encores,“ Pusha rapped, alluding to Drake, who released his second
album, Take
Care, later that year,
In 2012, to make sure he was clear Pusha took shots on “Exodus 23:1”. Discussing Drake and Lil Wayne's difficult contract with Cash Money. Lil Wayne replied via Twitter
The following year after Pusha T took another shot at Wayne on the track “Your Favourite Rapper”. So on Drake’s album Nothing Was The Same, Drake decided to stand up for himself and his mentor, rapping “Bench players talkin’ like starters / I hate it” on the track “Tuscan Leather” . Drake also rapped: “I’m just as famous as my mentor / But that’s still the boss, don’t get sent for / Get hype on tracks and jump in front of a bullet you wasn’t meant for.”
In 2014 , when Lil Wayne complained about his label issues (which Tyga did first) . Pusha T found it the right time to poke fun , stating that he told no lies in his 2012 diss.
In 2016, Pusha came with “H.G.T.V”, featuring the hardest hitting verses from Pusha at that time. He references Drake’s first mixtape , So Far Gone, and questioning his reported use of ghostwriters a topic that has been widely mentioned by those who take issue with Drake. Pusha rapped: “It’s too far gone when the realest ain’t real / I walk amongst the clouds so your ceilings ain’t real / These n***as Call of Duty ‘cause their killings ain’t real / With a questionable pen so the feelin’ ain’t real.”
With Drakes 2017 , “Two Birds , One Stone”. He basically insinuates that Pusha didn’t sell as many drugs as he claims , information he got from a No Malice interview.
So
now we are here today , Daytona releases May 25, 2018. On the
album he pokes at Drake about his ghostwriting again and unfortunately Drake
takes the bait. Coming off from a beef with Meek , I believe he was very cocky
with his response on “Duppy Freestyle”. However, when you are going against
your opponent you should evaluate whether they give a fuck less than you.
On
“Duppy Freestyle”, you could tell Drake didn’t have much to say about Pusha
because most of the song was dissing Kanye. But one line cost him a lot, when
he name drops his fiancé Virginia Williams.
I’ve
been following her for years on Instagram and just by the way she posts stuff,
you can tell she’s not in it for the fame. She doesn’t even post videos with
her voice in them, so at that point the gloves came off.. Exactly six years after his “Exodus 23:1” video release, he
dropped “The Story of Adidon”.
Pusha
was very calculated from the cover of the diss to the date it was released. He
exposed Drakes new Adidas roll out where he was going to introduce the world to
his son. Drake became flustered after this, getting the cover art removed from sites.
He even posts an explanation for the black face.
Funny
how the tables turn, Drake has never explained himself to anyone. Even though
his fans won’t admit it this diss is getting to him. He hasn’t said anything
outside of the IOS note press release and stories have leaked about him
actually being a good father .
I’ll
admit he didn’t have to expose his son to the public , but when you hear lyrics
like “..I only love my bed and my momma I’m sorry”. You start to look at him a
lot differently . As of today , J Prince has released a statement that Drake
will not respond because Pusha got way too disrespectful. Where was all this
energy when he was dragging Meek by his damn DreamChaser chain and bullying him
with memes. He even poked fun at Cudi when he was admitted into a mental health
facility .
I
think that camp knows that Pusha T had more up his sleeve , which would be easy
because not many people in the industry even like Drake. So I’m sure there are
people that can’t wait to release his secrets. So yes Pusha T won , but I would
have loved to hear a response . I’m a fan of both and just love hip hop in
general.. However, I did want to break it down , because a lot of people don’t
even know where the beef started. You Instagram babies should understand that
Google is your friend .
And
to those Drake fans who said that Pusha was irrelevant and broke , do your
Googles . I’m sure he’s still spending McDonalds money..
